7 August 2030 marks the 100th birth anniversary of Veljo Tormis!
We are celebrating this with a special initiative aimed at creating a symbolic gift for the composer: knitted wearable pieces born from community creativity, a nature-oriented mindset, and respect for traditional cultural heritage.
🎉 This August, on the composer’s 96th birth anniversary, a sweater knitting competition will begin and run until 7 May 2030.
This long-term initiative is carried out in cooperation with the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union.
Sweaters, vests, and other sweater-like garments are welcome— whether for yourself, a friend, or even a pet.
👥 Groups are also invited to create knitwear based on a shared concept!
We are looking for partners who:
– are willing to lead knitting trainings or workshops;
– run a café or restaurant with space for knitting circle gatherings;
– contribute to promoting local wool and materials;
– help share information about the project within their networks.
