Mikrokosmos will perform at the Septembre de l'Orne festival with The Saga of the People Without Armour, a production created in 2025 to mark the 90th birthday of Arvo Pärt and the 95th anniversary of Veljo Tormis.
Under the direction of Loïc Pierre, the production weaves together three thematic strands: the memory of the Baltic peoples, embodied in Tormis's secular and Pärt's sacred music; the French language, through which unique adaptations of Tormis's works are presented; and elements of Kabuki theatre, whose staging and dramaturgy create a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures.
Audiences can expect a musical and visual journey in which traditional and unconventional instruments blend with harvest songs, laments, and festive songs alongside contemporary sounds. The choir's costumes, combining Baltic and Japanese traditions, add visual richness and depth, while the overall staging offers an immersive experience that invites audiences to connect with the turbulent history of the Baltic peoples.
