This time, Regilaulupesa presents an Ingria-themed evening featuring the songs of the Votic, Izhorian, and Ingrian Finnic peoples. These songs were once sung by our kindred peoples not far from here, beyond Narva.

Songs from Ingria have been arranged by Veljo Tormis, and many of them have also been performed by Väike Hellero. The texts of Ingrian runic songs contain much that feels familiar, yet the melodies and rhythms differ. Simple polyphony can sometimes be heard, and the songs are often accompanied by movement in a circle or in lines. In the workshop, we will explore these distinctive sounds and movements. To make the singing flow smoothly and ensure everything is understood, printed lyrics with translations will be provided.

Once a month, Regilaulupesa opens its doors at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre.
At each gathering, an experienced lead singer guides a runic song evening where everyone is welcome to sing along. The aim of Regilaulupesa is to introduce and sustain the tradition of runic singing, offering everyone the opportunity to share it with their own voice.

The doors are warmly open to all—both new and experienced enthusiasts of runic song, as well as students and pupils.
