Conductor Valter Soosalu has created a programme that feels especially at home in a church setting. There is something deeply characteristic of August evenings in this music – a sense of stillness, twilight, and quiet longing.
Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Into the Heart of Light flows, surges, and strives purposefully towards light, creating the illusion that the listener is submerged in darkness, gazing upward toward a distant, shimmering glow. This Nordic atmosphere is further enriched by Jean Sibelius’s suite for violin and strings and Erik Fordell’s In Folk Style. Alongside them also Lennox Berkeley’s Serenade for Strings, where chamber-like clarity meets delicate lyricism.
Estonian music and its close connection to the country’s poetic heritage form an important part of the programme. Veljo Tormis’s Three Songs from an Epic and Two Songs to texts by Ernst Enno, including Somewhere Unheard, Home Resounds, are presented alongside Eduard Tubin’s Evening Song and Tuudur Vettik’s The Moon—all arranged by Valter Soosalu.

The concert is without intermission and lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
