Laulusumm means the hum of songs — a song created together. It is not just a concert where the audience listens. Everyone who wishes is welcome to sing along.

Under the guidance of Celia Roose and Ants Johanson, Estonian regilaul, or runic songs, newer songs, instrumental music, and the works of Veljo Tormis will be performed. The songs bring together the shared cultural heritage of Estonians and other Finno-Ugric peoples with the present day.

VELJO TORMIS AND THE FINNO-UGRIC SINGING TRADITION
Veljo Tormis (1930–2017) was one of Estonia’s most important composers and a keeper of the singing heritage of the Finno-Ugric peoples. His work drew, among other sources, on the regilaul traditions of the Livonians, Votians, Ingrian Finns, Vepsians, Karelians, Estonians, and Finns. Tormis also used texts from the Kalevala and Kalevipoeg in his compositions.

Celia Roose is a singer, choir conductor, and folk music teacher who has led several Laulusumm events inspired by the works of Veljo Tormis.
Ants Johanson is a traditional musician, music teacher, and musicologist who is actively involved with regilaul and the works of Veljo Tormis. He also collaborates with the Veljo Tormis Virtual Centre.
Laulusumm events have been organised in Estonia and internationally, including in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu, at the Viljandi Folk Music Festival, in Stockholm, Tampere, and at the Estonian Cultural Days in New York.
