Estonian Music Days "Lood"

A performance exploring the brutality and futility of war, and the peace and solace to be found in the natural world.

The programme is created in collaboration with the Estonian Music Days, Taavi Kerikmäe, and the Ensemble of the Estonian Electronic Music Society, and is inspired by this year’s festival theme, "Lood".

“Tormis Variations” is a sonic conversation in which ancient depth and contemporary freedom listen to one another. Veljo Tormis’s folk song–based music enters into dialogue with modern jazz, improvisation, and electronic textures, shaped by spatial acoustics.

At the opening concert of the Concerto grosso series, Lepo Sumera’s Concerto grosso will be performed in the White Hall of the House of the Blackheads, framed by works of his teacher Veljo Tormis and his former students Galina Grigorjeva and Erkki‑Sven Tüür.

On stage there are over 90 male singers who offer the audience a unique, unforgettable, and powerful experience.
