Fuga (FUGA 9400)
Wiipurilaisen Osakunnan Laulajat is a mixed voices student choir based in Helsinki, Finland. The title translates as "Oh Karelia", and all the songs in this record have a connection to Karelia, a region divided by the border of Finland and Russia.
The "Karjalan Kohtalo"-pieces are originally sung by various folk singers:
"Itkevä Neito" by Anna Kiprojeva, "Meren Kosijat" by Domna Huovinen, "Orjana Virossa" by Pelageja Kuljukka, "Tammen Kaataja" by Martta Kähmi and "Kehtolaulu" by Elmi Tsokkinen.
