A unique opportunity to celebrate the 95th anniversary of beloved composer Veljo Tormis together with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra – from an unexpectedly refreshing perspective. While Tormis’s name is primarily associated with his powerful choral works, this time conductor Valter Soosalu brings into focus Tormis’s somewhat lesser-known but equally compelling instrumental side.

The concert will feature several intriguing arrangements: familiar settings by Tõnu Kõrvits and Rasmus Puur that may already resonate with listeners, as well as entirely new and distinctive arrangements by Valter Soosalu, Jaak Sooäär, and Bianca Rantala.

On stage, a diverse group of artists come together: tenor Heldur Harry Põlda, guitarist Jaak Sooäär, the folk music ensemble Duo Ruut, video artist Alyona Movko-Mägi, lighting designer Priidu Adlas, and of course, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.

Together, these outstanding musicians pay tribute to Veljo Tormis’s body of work – which is not merely a part of national cultural heritage, but a living and breathing organism. It is precisely the modern interpretations that once again prove that Tormis’s music is not just an echo of the past, but holds a primal power that touches all of us, here and now – regardless of language, nationality, or era.

The concert has no intermission and lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Tickets available at PILETILEVI!

Organized by Tallinn Philharmonic.
