U.S. Chamber Choir Pays Tribute to Veljo Tormis and Pärt Uusberg

The U.S. chamber choir SONAM (Singers of New And Ancient Music), under the direction of conductor Allan Friedman, will give two concerts in Tallinn during Midsummer – at the Rocca al Mare Open Air Museum and at the Teachers' House on Town Hall Square. The choir will perform works by Estonian composers Veljo Tormis and Pärt Uusberg.

At the Rocca al Mare Open Air Museum, the choir will be the international guest performer on Midsummer Eve, June 23, in the Sassi-Jaani Farm courtyard at 8:30 PM.

The choir will give a full concert tomorrow, June 24, at 7:00 PM at the Teachers' House (Raekoja plats 14). Admission is free.

Chamber choir SONAM has been active since 2012 and consists of about 30 talented singers from central North Carolina, led by music director Allan Friedman and concertmaster Jane Lynch. The choir’s repertoire mainly features a cappella music from various musical eras and traditions, with a special focus on contemporary music.

SONAM’s founder, music and education director Allan Friedman, is a faculty member at Duke University, where he conducts the Duke Chorale and teaches conducting.

The choir is visiting Tallinn as part of a concert tour through the Baltic countries, with other performances taking place in Vilnius and Riga.
