Olev Muska is the first Estonian to fully embrace electronic music, releasing Estonia’s first entirely electronic vinyl single already in 1980. His 1985 album Old Estonian Waltzes is both the first fully electronic folk music album and the first Estonian electronic dance music record. Last year, Muska received the Cultural Endowment’s Sound Art Endowment Award for his contribution to Estonian music history.

In April, Olev returns to Estonia to present his new album My Mouth Sang / My Heart Sank, which continues his decades‑long dialogue between Estonian folk music and contemporary sonic language. Veljo Tormis’s in‑depth exploration of the song traditions of Finno‑Ugric peoples has been a central point of departure for Muska, which he interprets through electronic and experimental music.

“From the moment Veljo Tormis opened my ears to the contemporary interpretation of our ancient Estonian song, I have felt captivated—driven to search for and unravel the clues my ancestors have left me,” Muska says.

The concert will be followed by a conversation with the artist.
