"Runnel and Tormis. Two tough countrymen.
Hando Runnel: "A poem is nothing but a song that has lost its voice."
Through singing, Runnel's poetry became more popular.
Hando and Veljo, there is something similar in their first names too. Both are countrymen.
If you look at the map of Estonia, one is from Kõrvemaa and the other is from the outskirts of the Pandivere highlands, the distance between their birthplaces is only 40 km.
Runnel has said: “Melody (music) is like infrared radiation: It shows what was there before. So the song is in the hands of the composer, whether he makes the text visible immediately or takes and drowns these words in his substance - it is comparable to fog."
The music of Veljo Tormis makes the text visible, and not only the one that makes it visible, but even amplifies it.
P.S. It was through Tormis that Runnel's word reached me."
