In 2025, we will celebrate Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday and Veljo Tormis' 95th birthday. On the eve of the Estonia's birthday, conductor Rasmus Puur and the VHK String Orchestra will bring together the works of these two great figures of Estonian music in one concert program. In addition to the fact that Tormis was Pärt's teacher at the Tallinn Music School, the word has been an important starting point for the work of both composers. Sometimes, however, this word has been the initial impulse, the basis of the work, which does not sound at all in the instrumental work. Yet these works share a strong commonality and spirituality with their original texts. The concerts will feature Hans Christian Aavik, winner of one of the most prestigious and important international violin competitions in the world, the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition.
