MUBA Symphony Orchestra Concert
The MUBA Symphony Orchestra opens the new year with a survey of works by major Estonian composers celebrating anniversaries.
Veljo Tormis 95 – We present suites from the chamber opera Luigelend (“Swan Flight”), performed together with the MUBA Girls’ Choir, as well as the rarely heard Little Symphony (Hommage à Joseph Haydn). The Girls’ Choir will also perform Tormis’s a cappella choral works The Singer’s Childhood and three movements from the cycle Eight Estonian Lyric Folk Songs.
Lepo Sumera 75 – The program includes the witty, angular, and energy-filled first movement of Sumera’s Music for Chamber Orchestra.
Eino Tamberg 95 – We perform the legendary first movement of Concerto grosso, brimming with youthful joie de vivre. Soloists in Tamberg’s Concerto grosso are Minna Emilia Vürst (flute), Loone Krigul (bassoon), Zana Paalberg (clarinet), Caspar Kiis (saxophone), Jan Marius Laur (trumpet), and Kärt Mikalai (piano).
Arvo Pärt 90 – The Girls’ Choir will sing the four-part a cappella choral work Peace upon you, Jerusalem, imbued with the joy of a pilgrim’s journey.
The MUBA Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Valle-Rasmus Roots, with the Girls’ Choir directed by Ingrid Kõrvits.
The concert will be performed without intermission.
