Before Estonia's Independence Day, two string orchestras join forces. On one side are young musicians just beginning their musical journey; on the other, professional Estonian top musicians. Together they pay tribute to Estonian music, from Rudolf Tobias to Erkki‑Sven Tüür, with perhaps a few works from elsewhere added in.

Arvo Pärt – Fratres
Veljo Tormis
• Curse Upon Iron
• Songs of the Ancient Sea
Erkki‑Sven Tüür – Passion
Tarmo Lepik – Häll’s World
Rudolf Tobias – As a Deer
Tõnu Kõrvits – I Gaze at the Mountain
Rasmus Puur – Windy Elegy

Rasmus Puur: “I was interested in what could be performed — above all from Estonian music — by two string orchestras. Something that naturally contains a certain dialogue or multilayered quality that would come alive in such an imagined form. That felt fascinating and enchanting to me. I also wanted to hear some works from our string‑music canon played by a large string orchestra, as a wide sonic landscape. To hear what kind of colour might emerge. And how these two orchestras, each with its own sound world and energy, will begin to resonate together—I cannot imagine it at all yet. But I am very, very much looking forward to it.”

The concert has no intermission and lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Organised by the Tallinn Philharmonic.
