The legendary, Grammy Award-winning Latvian Radio Choir returns to Basel after a long time – one of the most outstanding choirs in Europe, famous for its unparalleled sound culture and precision.
The concert is dedicated to nature and its sounds on our Earth. What could be closer to this idea than the mysterious and masterful a cappella singing from Latvia?
Under the direction of Sigvards Kļava, the world-renowned choir will perform new works by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė as well as compositions by Veljo Tormis, Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks, Anders Hillborg, Knut Nystedt, and Mārtiņš Viļums – music about seas, forests, myths, and humanity within the soundscape of nature. During this matinee, St. Paul's Church in Basel will be transformed into a cathedral of nature – a unique, otherworldly sonic experience.
