Edina Szirtes is a versatile artist and composer who travels through the sound worlds of folklore, chanson, Eastern music, and contemporary styles. Her virtuosic violin solos and powerful, distinctive voice set her apart across genres and from other performers.

Edina describes this Põlva concert programme as follows:
“We are connected to the past — to the pain, joy, and songs of our ancestors. We pass this on to the world so that the thread binding us together will not break. The songs performed at the concert are inspired by deep respect for Hungarian folklore. They draw from folk music, folk tales, and tradition.
The musical world is built on the chamber-like sound of strings familiar from classical music. By blending folk music with the boundless and enchanting freedom of jazz — where improvisation can take us far beyond the ordinary — we become strands in a braid, weaving together the heritage from which we were born and have grown.”

In addition to Edina Szirtes’ own works, the concert will feature interpretations of pieces by Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, and Veljo Tormis.
