Among the modern pieces, I was particularly riveted by ‘Kaksikpühendus’, a stirring cry for freedom by Veljo Tormis, one of the great Estonian composers. Indian film composer AR Rahman (of Slumdog Millionaire fame) contributes ‘Zikr’, a robust setting of a Sufi (Muslim) prayer. /---/ Sound quality is outstanding, and we get Cantus’s customary deluxe (and complete) booklet. Fellow Cantus addicts, here’s your latest “fix” (KOOB, 2013)
